Before the After

12 June to 12 September 2021

March 17, 2020: France enters containment.

Gentiane Guillot, like everyone else, undergoes physical confinement, like many people the ultra digital connection, and like many others the irrepressible urge to say.

The work is done under constraints. Imposed: use of the only material available on site.
Or chosen: direct shots, without effect or retouching; sharing on social networks one image per day; a legend.

First, take a photographic gaze that is forced to inhibit the whole, to focus on the part. Then stage the character, who by his very own presence creates a universe of his miniature measure: without artifice or illusion, the objects cease to be life-size to become landscape or architecture.
Finally, the text. The words come in, the story appears. There are many interpretations: each is true.

With her very small characters, Gentiane Guillot tries to tame the march of the world gone mad, every day from March 17 to May 11, 2020, and in a truant and wandering way since.

The Other…

To build the biography of Gentiane Guillot, you have to:
Be a child in Peru, a little girl in Spain, a teenager in France, an adult here and there.
Stray into far too likely studies and occupations.
Find yourself in the most living arts: street, circus, puppetry.
Write, by pieces; sing, the world; photograph, the health crisis.
Feeding on elsewhere, where the degree of reality is only one subjective measure among others.
Support and advise others than her now.
With, to connect the whole: the joyful, continuous search for the next possible, the next shift …
