Atashpishinanu / Second skin, the art of ilnu clothing

18 November 2023 to 28 April 2024

The exhibition takes a contemporary look at clothing manufacturing within the Ilnu community of Mashteuiatsh. A true cultural fresco, it celebrates the beauty of creations from yesterday to today and highlights the know-how and ingenuity of artists and craftsmen.

In total, more than fifty pieces and around twenty artisans and exhibitors are highlighted. The viewer is invited to look at the garment from 11 different angles, thus demonstrating the important place it occupies in Pekuakamiulnuatsh culture. The link with the territory, the motifs, the ceremonial costume, entrepreneurship, family transmission are some of the themes that this exhibition addresses through testimonies.

Exhibition produced by the Ilnu Museum of Mashteuiatsh. The creation of the exhibition was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts and Hydro Québec.
